The story of the CSI Town Church, Arni, is inseparable from the pioneer missionary work of the Arcot American Mission (AAM). Founded in the mid-19th century, our church stands as a living witness to the faith and dedication of those who brought the message of hope to the North Arcot region.
The Arcot American Mission — Est. 1853
The mission was officially organized in 1853 by the renowned Scudder family, led by Rev. John Scudder Sr. and his sons. Arni was chosen as one of the four original base stations, alongside Arcot, Vellore, and Chittoor.

Education Begins
An elementary school and a small gathering of believers were established in Arni. The missionaries focused on holistic ministry — education and health alongside spiritual growth.
Mission Compound Grows
The Mission Compound in Arni became a center for community outreach, providing quality education to marginalized communities — a legacy that continues to this day.
The Scudder Legacy Expands
The Scudder family's influence reached every corner of the district — from Voorhees College to Scudder Memorial Hospital and CMC Vellore. Their commitment to service inspired the growth of our congregation.
Church of South India Formed
The historic union of multiple denominations gave birth to the Church of South India. Our church became part of the CSI Vellore Diocese.
Continuing the Mission
As part of the CSI Vellore Diocese, we carry forward this flame of faith, serving Arni with the same spirit of Christian charity that began over 170 years ago.
